We’re kicking off the celebrations with a relaxed and joyful Mehndi afternoon at the villa — and everyone’s invited to come hang out, snack, mingle, and ease into the week of festivities!
Traditionally, this is when the bride has henna (mehndi) applied — a natural plant-based dye used to create beautiful designs on the hands and feet, symbolizing love, joy, and good fortune.
If you’re around and would like to stop by the villa, please do! This event is not mandatory for the guests to attend, it’s just a fun little pre wedding tradition to get everyone excited for what’s to come. Ladies are welcome to get a hand small design – if they’d like to join in the fun — it’s a lovely way to take part in this meaningful tradition. Hubbies and kiddo are absolutely welcome to come too— this will be a laid-back event for everyone to enjoy together.
It will take place in the late afternoon and run for just a few hours. *Please note: will have times closer to the date
Light snacks and refreshments will be available.
Casual and comfortable — think breezy, bright, and joyful. Please avoid white and black.
Of course! Here’s a warm and engaging explanation you can include on your wedding site:
Mehndi (or henna) is a cherished pre-wedding tradition in many South Asian and Indo-Caribbean cultures. It involves applying a natural dye made from the henna plant to the hands (and sometimes feet), creating beautiful, intricate designs.
Traditionally, this ceremony is held for the bride, groom and their closest family and friends — it’s a moment to slow down, share laughter, tell stories, and surround the bride with love and good energy before the big day.
The mehndi designs are not just pretty; they carry deep cultural and symbolic meaning — often representing joy, prosperity, protection, and blessings for the couple’s new life together. There’s even a sweet superstition: the darker the stain, the stronger the love between the couple (and the better the relationship with the in-laws)!
While the bride typically receives the most elaborate design, it’s also common for close friends and family (especially women) to get a small design for fun and to join in the celebration.
For us, it’s a beautiful way to honour our roots, celebrate togetherness, and officially kick off a week of joyful chaos and connection.
