Dig Dutty (Not Mandatory)

The Dig Dutty is a cherished pre-wedding tradition rooted in Guyanese and Caribbean culture. It’s a vibrant, meaningful day full of symbolic rituals that prepare the bride and groom for their wedding journey — both physically and spiritually.

The ceremony usually includes:

  • Dye rubbing (turmeric/haldi paste): Loved ones apply a natural yellow dye to the couple’s skin to bless them with glowing skin, happiness, and protection before the big day.
  • Popping popcorn: Yes, actual popcorn! A light-hearted ritual that symbolizes abundance and joy.
  • Planting a tree: Representing growth, unity, and deep roots — a powerful symbol of the couple’s new life together.
  • Traditional blessings & music: Expect good vibes, drumming, laughter, and aunties telling you where to stand!

This isn’t a long formal event — more like a joyful few hours spent with family and friends, participating in rituals, eating, chatting, and having fun. *Please note: will have times closer to the date

This event is also not mandatory to attend for the guests. However, everyone is welcome to come or just stop in to see some of the pre wedding traditions and rituals.

What to Wear:

The vibe is laid-back and festive, so casual clothing is perfect. Bright colours are encouraged! You will get a little messy (thanks to turmeric!), so we suggest wearing something comfortable that you don’t mind getting stained. Please avoid wearing white or black, and feel free to add cultural touches if you’d like.
